Do It Yourself Bathroom Remodeling

Is your bathroom old and out dated? Wouldn’t you love to change a few things about your bathroom that you have been wanting to change for so long? The floor tiles may be out of style and the countertops could use replacing. Well, you are not alone because millions of people have the same desire as you and they choose to do these renovations their selves in order to save money. But is it really worth your time and effort?

There is no secret that the big reason people choose to remodel their bathrooms themselves is because it saves a bunch of money. If you want to pay a professional to come in a remodel your bathroom you could be looking at spending way more than you think. Depending on what you want done it could end up costing you in the thousands. If you have that extra money to spend than you may want have someone else do that work in order to avoid the headache. But if you don’t and you’re like most people you are probably thinking, "Hey I can do that." And you’re probably right. Some bathroom renovations only take some limited knowledge of tools and the right DIY book to guide you through it.

If you choosing to do the renovations yourself, if at all possible make sure that you work on a test bathroom first. A test bathroom is one that does not get that much traffic during the day. If you have a guest bathroom, that works out great. If you don’t have a test bathroom than you just have to grit your teethe and work on the master bath.

If you are going to tackle a bathroom remodeling job and you don’t have much experience in the handyman field, make sure that you start off slow and don’t try to start a project that may be over your head. For instance, a good first job may be putting in a vanity, while one that may be over the head of a novice would be installing a new shower. If at all possible, try not to mess with the plumbing your first time out if you can. There are plenty of vanity out there that are light weight as well as inexpensive, that is why installing a vanity is the perfect first timer’s project. They also beautify the room as well as make the room much brighter. And they also add real value to your home. Your bathroom remodeling dollar will go a long way when properly upgrading your kitchen and your bathrooms.

One disadvantage of doing your own renovations is the time factor. Some bathroom renovations are more complicated that others and you may find that they take a little more time to do. You may find yourself looking at a half finished bathroom for months at a time and this could be very frustrating. Another disadvantage is that you are probably use to using the bathroom that you are renovating and when repairs are underway you may have to walk to the next room, upstairs or downstairs in order to use a bathroom that fully operational. Who knows, a sink, a mirror or maybe even floor tile may be missing in the renovated bathroom which may cause you to have to relocate. This is a slight inconvenience and could get a little frustrating at times.

Always keep in mind the advantages and disadvantages when remodeling your bathroom. If you have the money to spend than it may make sense to have a professional come in and perform the work. Chances are that they can do the job quicker and it may save you some headaches. But if you’re strapped for cash and you feel as though you can handle your project on your own, you can buy your materials at a local hardware store and give it a shot. Chances are you may be surprised at how easy the work can be.
