Finding Mold in Your Bathroom During Renovations

Many people today have taken the initiative to remodel their bathrooms. Remodeling your bathroom gives your bedroom a new identity. It beautifies the room while also giving you a sense of newness about your home. Many people have also taken the bull by the horns and have tried to do the remodeling work themselves. This can be a positive as well as a risk. A room like your bathroom that is used for water could be carrying mold in dark damp areas. What do you do when you find mold?

Mold is a type of fungus. There are many different types of mold. Some types of mold and harmless but others could be quite dangerous and when left untreated could lead to serious health issues. The type of mold that is frequently found in bathrooms is known as black mold. You do not want to find this type of mold in your bathroom because if you do you may have a major problem on your hands.

The following could cause mold to grow:

  • High humid areas like your bathroom where hot showers are frequently taken.
  • The combination of stagnant air, darkness and high temperature.
  • Mold Spores

As you can see, the bathroom may be at high risk for causing mold to grow.

Usually the first instinct that someone has when they encounter a mold problem is to remove it yourself. This is not recommended when coming across black mold. If the proper technique is not used you may cause toxic mold spores to become airborne and then you are putting your whole family at risk. Toxic mold like black mold can cause many medical issues such as respiratory problems. And the list doesn't end there. You may also be susceptible to headaches, rashes and other skin disorders. Some people have even complained of flu like symptoms.

Mold removal could be a little on the expensive side but in the end it is well worth it for your sake and the sake of your family. A professional will know exactly how to remove the mold so that it does not become airborne and put your family at risk. You may be remodeling your bathroom on your own to save a little money but if you find black mold you should really pay the extra money to have someone come in that knows what he or she is doing. And besides, there should be no price too high for piece of mind and knowing that your family is safe.

There is a quick, easy and relatively inexpensive piece of equipment that you can install in order to do a little mold prevention. Run out to your local hardware store and pick up a bathroom fan. It may make all the difference in preventing mold from growing in your bathroom. It has been shown that a bathroom fan can dry up some of those areas where mold like to grow.

Hint: Run the bathroom fan while you are taking a shower and also a few minutes after you have finished taking your shower. It might make all the difference in the world.

If you have begun to remodel your bathroom and found mold, do not touch it or go near it. The best thing to do is call a professional to take care of the problem. Once the mold has been removed you may want to invest in a bathroom fan if you do not already have one. You could be saving yourself a bunch of future heart ache if you have one.
